Days before the Speech, the White House announced a trip of president Obama to meet the Pope on March to discuss how to reduce poverty and inequalities in the World. One could have guessed at the time, this State of the Union (2014) Speech would focus on that. And it did. Yes we can now translates yes, we do. Changing by acting. Change through taking decision following immediately by action. In other words, No more time to waste in endless discussions and on an impossible common ground for bi-partisanism which is at a deadlock stand.
After the tune “Change we can” staged into all the vocalizes possible, this is the year for action, the president has declared. What happened in between ?
The audacity of change was damaged by the huge financial crisis that reclaimed millions of jobs and cut down the pace of growth necessary to catch up with the previous situation of jobs market. Consequently, what really changed was the president’s agenda : instead of Changing the World and America in the process, Barack Obama was oblige to start with the recovery of the economy, prior to anything else.
First heal the patient. It took the first mandate to reverse the slippery slope of the economy downturn.
Today, unemployment is low by 3 points and more, growth is back to 3 % ; wars have ended and Obama’s announcement to close Guantanamo will put an end to the Rainbow warrior American session. This is a change of philosophy. Previously, for America, each problem in the World was met with one response : Military Intervention as a cult. After waging so many wars, starting in Vietnam and ending in Lybia, and pushing so many countries into deadly civil wars and partition in the World – setting them aback from the course of development – the naked true is those wars were not game changers for the better. They even worsen the situation. Military intervention was used prematurely and heavily, whereas the military weapon should be the last resort option and used with tact. On the field of military operations, the American extreme cure made people go mad because of the chaos generated in so doing. In short, military interventions were counterproductive all along the way.
A good point for president Obama in his State of the Union stating he will veto any more sanctions demanding for Iran.
» Let me be clear: if this Congress sends me a new sanctions bill now that threatens to derail these talks, I will veto it.For the sake of our national security, we must give diplomacy achance to succeed. If Iran’s leaders do not seize this opportunity, then I will be the firstto call formore sanctions, and stand ready to exercise all options to make sure Iran doesnot build a nuclear weapon ». BarackObama.
How long will the storytelling of Iran not building a nuclear weapon last ?
Nonetheless, the president severely admonested Iran and Syria. In the meantime, Israel was reassured and statutory confirmed as the Great Nation to protect at all costs. Go Hell Palestinians, was the subliminal message, for the repetition of the eternal stance asking a two state solution is now sounding nonsense. We have been hearing that for 50 years more in the mouth of all the Head of States of the World so many times that when you hear the beginning of the sentence, you can recite the end. It is just a halo, a whistle like.
» As we speak, American diplomacy is supporting Israelis and Palestinians as they engage indifficult but necessary talks to end the conflict there; to achieve dignity and an independent state for Palestinians an lasting peace and security for the State of Israel – a Jewish state that knows America will always be at their side » (Barack Obama).
A YEAR OF ACTION
Is health care a real game changer or another baillout ? I have no answer for that. Take a look at those two counterpoints by Reason.com and make up your own opinion.
First, the notion that “no full time worker should raise a family living in poverty ».
And that second one : How to help people to return to work.
THE INNOVATION HERE IS THE MISSION of Vice president J. Biden. Matching the market of employment with the training. Leading from the top not from behind.
…Tonight, I’ve asked Vice President Biden to lead an across-the-board reform of America’s training programs to make sure they have one mission: train Americans with the skills employers need, and match them to good jobs that need to be filled right now. That means more on-the-job training, and more apprenticeships that set a young worker on an upward trajectory for life.It means connecting companies to community colleges that can help design training to fill their specific needs. And if Congress wants to help, you can concentrate funding on proven programs that connect more ready-to-work Americans with ready-to-be-filled jobs. I’m also convinced we can help Americans return to the workforce faster by reforming unemployment insurance so that it’s more effective in today’s economy. But first, this Congress needs to restore the unemployment insurance you just let expire for 1.6 million people. (Barack Obama).
This is really good news.
Just for those two statements and for the closure of Guantanamo, in accordance to America principles, the speech was worthy a hearing.
This State of the Union was not about Foreign Affairs but about the Economy.
Now, what about Immigration, that other hot topic ?
Just days after his State of the Union address in which he called for Congress to find common ground with him, President Barack Obama sounded less than confident that they could find that common ground.
« I think there are some issues where it’s going to be hard for them to move forward, » Obama said of congressional Republicans, « and I am going to reach out to them and say, ‘Here are my best ideas, I want to hear yours,’ » Obama told CNN Chief Washington Correspondent Jake Tapper in an interview airing today.
« In no way are my expectations diminished or my ambitions diminished. But what is obviously true is we’ve got a divided government right now, » Obama told Tapper.
The president also discusses whether he can work with Republicans on immigration, whether the Sochi games are safe and legalizing marijuana. Portions of the interview air on « New Day » at 6 a.m. ET and will run in full on « The Lead with Jake Tapper » at 4 p.m. ET.
SUPPORTING COMPREHENSIVE IMMIGRATION REFORM
« Listening to last night’s State of the Union, I was happy to hear President Obama discuss the urgent need for comprehensive immigration reform – because even though the House of Representatives has spent the last six months sitting on its hands, this problem hasn’t gone anywhere.
Right now, the 11 million undocumented immigrants in our country are being denied their shot at the American Dream. They’re our friends, our neighbors and parts of our communities. Treating them this way isn’t right.
Last June, my colleagues and I passed a bipartisan bill that would have brought them out of the shadows and provided a path to citizenship, but the House has refused to act ».(Senator Bob Menendez).
NEWS OF THE WORLD
The Army is asking president Ianoukovitch to declare a state of emergency in Ukraine to stop endless demonstrators occupation of public buildings. The situation is worsening, because the opposition has lit up a fire they are unable to stop burning. On the other hand, medias reporting doesn’t help : when people in the West side are demonstrating against their leaders, they are decried and called all names. When the same situation explodes elsewhere, those hoologans are all of the sudden liberators, democrats and freedom activists.
Can the Army intervene to stop this mess ? It is difficult to say. Those guys don’t obey neither the president nor the leaders of the opposition. All this looks like a coup. Perhaps, the army is going to find itself in a position to enter the game, to prevent this well-oiled planned coup by members of the Opposition from happening. Egyptian scenario next ?
There is an ongoing and deliberate attempt by foreign powers to spearhead the destabilization of The Ukraine including its state structure.
There is a long history of colored revolutions in the Ukraine going back to the 1990s.
The protest movement in Kiev bears a marked resemblance to the “Orange Revolution” of 2004 which was supported covertly by Washington. The 2004 “Orange Revolution” led to the ousting of the pro-Russian Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovich, spearheading into power the Western proxy government of President Viktor Yushchenko and Prime Minister Julia Tymoshenko.
Once more Viktor Yanukovitch is the target of a carefully staged “pro-EU protest movement”. The latter was launched following president Yanukovitch’s decision to cancel the “association agreement” with the EU.
The mechanisms of interference are in some regards different to those of 2004. The protests are supported directly by Brussels and Berlin (with EU officials actively involved) rather than by Washington:
“The right-wing parties leading the protests in coordination with EU officials and politicians had called for a “million man march.” Ultimately, some 250,000 to 300,000 people gathered on Maïdan (Independence) Square. It was the largest protest in Kiev since the 2004 “color revolution” organized by US and European imperialism—the so-called Orange Revolution that ousted the pro-Russian Yanukovich and brought the pro-Western tandem of President Viktor Yushchenko and Prime Minister Julia Tymoshenko to power.
Evgenia Tymoshenko, the daughter of former prime minister and billionaire natural gas magnate Julia Tymoshenko, whom Yanukovich has jailed, read a message from her mother calling for Yanukovich’s “immediate” ouster. (See Alex Lantier, December 8, 2013)
The following article first published in November 2004, focuses on the October-November 2004 “Orange Revolution” directed against then prime minister Viktor Yanukovich, while also providing details on the insidious role of the IMF and the World Bank in imposing the neoliberal economic policy agenda on behalf of the “Washington Consensus”.
